Recycled Storage for Slice Cartridges

I bought a Slice machine and a few cartridges, so I was looking for a way to inventory what I have and store the cartridges in easy reach of the machine. This is what I came up with:

I bought these Mary Kay display books at a thrift shop thinking I might make albums out of them. They really work great for this application.  I put the cartridge info sheets in page protectors with  clear double sided tape. Two will fit in each protector. I can see front and back and add to them.  I didn't cut these down so they hang over the edge a tiny bit.  Also I copied these pages for my main inventory book.  Now this can sit on a shelf or my desk and I can flip through it easily to find what I need.  I wanted to keep the cartridges with the book so I used velcro dots to attach the cartridges to the binder cover.

This is so easy to use and everything is right here.  Also if I want to take my Slice to a crop- I fold up the binder and go.  I haven't decorated the cover yet but I will when I decide on colors and design.  I spent about $2.00 on this.  I have an extra binder-- what do you think I should do with it?

Card 55 - Dream

Our challenge today was to create a card with needles and pins.  I had no idea what I was going to do for this card and very little time to do it.  This is when the creative process amazes me.  I knew I wanted a vintage style but that was it.  So I searched through my vintage graphics file until something inspired me.  This graphic of the girl and the bird in a cage is from The Graphics Fairy .  I cut the word with my slice and the basic 1 cartridge. I sprayed the top of the card and graphic with Sea Blue glitter mist.  this is the only glitter mist I own, but there was a lot of blue shadow in the graphic and it matched perfectly-too bad you can't really see it in the photo.  The graphic was matted on olive green cardstock with the edges roughed up and inked with walnut.  My hands are working a little bit, but not enough to sew, I had my daughter do the stitching on the vine trim.  Then added 2 pearl-headed pins and the little flowers.

Card 54- New Baby

Our challenge today was to make a joy fold card. I really like these cards and they come out gorgeous.  This is my first time to make one but it won't be the last.  To get examples and instructions just google joy fold card.

I used some paper I was given but never used and for the first time, my Slice. I cut the scalloped circle, the baby feet circle and the word Baby with it.  I used a Martha Stewart border punch for lace. I inked the scalloped circle a bit for depth and stitched several pieces with my sewing machine zigzag stitch. Finally, I used a button and a bit of ribbon to finish.  Hope you like it.

Card 54- Sympathy card

Here's my daily card for 365 card challenge.  Today's challenge was to decorate the front, inside and back of a card.  I scraplifted this card from papercrafts mag Aug/Sep 2008.  The original was made by Kim Hughes,  My version uses CTMH stamps Treasure life and Butterfly Wings. I really like the shadow stamping on this. I'll want to try this technique again.

Card 52- Save the Date

Card 51-Trio

Card 51  for the 365 Card Challenge (link is on right margin) is a trio. We had 3 things we had to use: something red, an alpha sticker and a stamp.

I stamped the flowers and the message, used a red rhinestone for the dot in "i", alpha sticker is green "H".  I double mounted the H, used stickles for flower centers, curled the edges of large flowers and pop dots on blue for dimension.

Card 50- Birthday card + 2 more

Since part of my challenge to myself is to complete the 365 cards, I went back and made Card 4:

I used vellum with a flourish pattern and a quote sticker, inked all the edges in distress Fired Brick and inked the ribbon too because it was too bright.
Card 46 -white space

My card 46:

I used CTMH Key to my Heart paper and stamps. I cut the end of key from background with xacto to slip in keyhole, masked the phrase so I could put 1/2 above and below, used glitter glue as accent on lock and key.

Finally, Card 50 was a trio.  We had to use 1 item over a year old- no problem most of my stuff is at least that old.

1 item given to us- that is the photo of my son, by my daughter,

1 item we forgot about- that is the big plastic numbers, I found in a drawer.

I used black stazon, walnut distressing ink and CTMH stamps, there's a little King of hearts card peeking at the top of photo from a mini deck I picked up at a flea market, screwhead brads.

Card 49 - Monster Eyes

Today's card was a difficult.... it looks like olives, no, eyes, no eggs...

I went with eyes.

Card 48- Western Card

Hereis my card for Day 48 of the 365 card challenge.  Tonight my husband was coerced sweetly volunteered to be my hands, but only for 10 minutes.  Good thing I already had this card planned out in my head.  Here is the sketch:

I used CTMH stamp "Lovely Buckles, walnut distressing ink, silver metallic paper for buckle.

Card 47- Entry for Card Challenge and New Flower Technique

Since my hands are still mostly out of commission, I had a lot of help from my daughter to make this card.  With all the time I've had, i've been scoping out the blogs for ideas.  I came across a great challenge blog called 365 Card Challenge.  The idea is to scrap a card every day and every day there new parameters for the card.  All this week, for instance, the cards have been white space sketches. 

Now I am not a card maker really. I have preferred doing layouts...but these talented ladies have so many wonderful designs that I just had to wade in,  Also I want to use my new Cricut Expression and making cards will be a great learning avenue. I'm also challenging myself to go back and complete the first 46 cards.  I think I can use up a lot of my stash this way and with an impending move, cards don't take the time I spend on layouts. And I have another goal, to reconnect with old friends and family, I've kind of been a hermit the last few years.

Today's card sketch was a white space with 3 diagonal circles:

I Had a Layout Featured in ScrapStreet.com Magazine

It has been very exciting to have a layout picked to be published. It is one of my favorite layouts.  And I have to say that ScrapStreet.com is a great magazine featuring some fantastic work. My layout was in the Dec 2009 issue in the Chic Street monthly fixture, titled "Do You Want to Play Cards? Check it out HERE

Organizing Embellishments

 As a scrapbooker, the biggest challenge I face is finding space for my hobby. I need space to work and space to store my growing collection of supplies. Previously, most of my embellishments were in tool storage bins and that was working pretty well. But, now I think I found something better. Not only does this new system save space, But I can see quickly all my embellishments and they are already packed to head to a crop. I found this idea in Creating Keepsakes Scrapbooking Tips & Tricks 20/10. This is a special issue magazine. This system consists of cardboard, or chipboard, I used black foamcore board, Cut to the size that fits in your crop tote. 3 sizes of jewelry bags are stapled to the front and the bags are filled with your accents. Each board contains one color.

  Visually, I love these boards. I can see everything in a color family all at once. I think this is going to make my shopping list easier because I can see what I'm running short on. Also, I can pull out just the colors that I'm using for a particular layout or album and this should make clean-up much better.

My adaptations.. Foamcore borad is to thick for the staples, So on the larger bags I used a brad. I'm going to change this to velcro. That will make the bags easy to take off and put back on the board.  I also added a large ziploc with two brads on the back of the board. This is great for keeping scraps.  I'm going to paint the top edge with the color of the items on the board. One of the bags I am using to keep spools of thread. Though I don't usually use these for scrapbooking, It's one of those items I'm always having to dig through to find, Now I can just go to my green board for my green thread!

I'm still putting these all together, But I think this is going to definitely speed up the embellishing and clean-up processes.
